Wrinkle Relaxing Injectables
BOTOX®, DYSPORT®, XEOMIN®
Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are injected to temporarily block muscle movement in areas that contribute to and cause wrinkles. By diminishing a muscles function (temporarily paralyzing it), it stops the muscles from being able to make a line (wrinkle prevention) or works to decrease lines getting deeper, thereby improving the appearance of the wrinkles. The goal is to decrease the wrinkles in the treated area. FDA approved areas for Botox include frown lines (glabella), forehead wrinkles, and crows feet (lines around eyes). Dysport is FDA approved for treatment of the frown lines in between eyebrows (glabella), and Xeomin is FDA approved to treat frown lines in between eyebrows (glabella). This relaxation of the muscles is temporary, and re-injection is necessary within three to four months. Some patients may not be candidates for wrinkle relaxing treatments, including but not limited to pregnant/ breastfeeding, certain medical conditions, or those that have developed antibodies to specific products. In this case other treatments may be recommended. A consultation is the best place to start.
